Oxegen music festival Punchestown July 10th, 11th

Home

This year's big music festival
was again at Punchestown
Race Course in County
Kildare, about 30 miles from
Dublin.

It featured 60 or so bands
including The Strokes, The
Cure, Massive Attack, The
Chemical Brothers, Kings Of
Leon, The Darkness, Muse,
Wu-Tang Clan and Belle And
Sebastian.

The best performances were
probably Electric Six, The
Strokes and Kings Of Leon.
(The Cure were crap.)

I went with Neil Callanan, a
friend from work, and a friend
of his who joined us at the
same event last year.

It lashed rain a few times.

It's called Oxegen, by the way,
because Guinness (who
sponsored the event last year
when it was called
'Witnness') pulled out as
sponsors and were replaced
by Heineken. Oxeg-en,
Heinek-en. Get it? Nah,
neither did most people.

The summer music festivals in the British Isles combine all that's best
about us: peace, love, rain and beer

Duffman was there...

...but not us

Duffman's powers apparently
extend to keeping the rain
away from him and his acolytes

As were the 'funny' t-shirt brigade...

'Langered And
Proud'

Motorhead

'Stoned'

Gazza

And it wouldn't be a day out without scallies...

Having a thoroughly
enjoyable evening,
despite no ITV

Enjoying a
Radiohead moment

Fit, And They Know
It

Or mud...

Or Guards...

"[crackle]... that's
affirmative, nearest
Subway restaurant
is two
miles...[crackle]"

Dirt? What dirt?
We're in love!

That baseball cap
is just placed
spontaneously

Or plenty of beer...

Or human pyramids...

"We need one
more! We need one
more!"

"Yeeeaaghh!"

That most sacred of
festival traditions:
the beer run.
Luckily, queues
were short this year

Eoin and a clearly
satisfied Neil
digesting their free
Bacardis in the VIP
hospitality tent
