Bungy sites

Kawarau Bridge (47 metres) 9.40am

I bungy jumped three sites in one
day, the so-called 'Thrillogy'. The
Lonely Planet says it's reserved for
'masochists', but I enjoyed it.

The first jump was Kawarau Bridge,
the world's first commercial site. The
second was the Nevis Highwire, joint
biggest in the world (with one in
South Africa). And the third was the
Queenstown Ledge, overlooking that
town.

Was I quaking? Honestly, no. I was the first jumper of the day and I was
curious more than anything. I went off backwards for the maximum rush. I
was dunked in the river. It was truly amazing.

Nevis Highwire (143 metres), 12.10 pm

You have to take a dirt road up a mountain to get to this because it's so high.
I was very calm and confident for this. Still, when you're on the edge of the
launchpad and realise just how high it is -- 465 feet -- there are a few
butterflies. But this was awesome. The drop was so long (about six
seconds) that it really feels like flying.

Me after the Nevis jump

The Ledge (47 metres), 4.05pm

By the time I got around to this, it was like: "Yeah, next..." This was the only
one where your legs were not bound, so I ran and dived from the back of the
launch hut. The scenery up here (you had to get a gondola up) was absolutely
stunning.
